Teachers need to stay current in new developments in the areas of educational theory, methods, and materials in order to maintain their effectiveness in the classroom. The South Orange-Maplewood Education Foundation works with the school district to provide funds to augment staff developmentin ways that fulfill our mission.

SOMEF funded the Tripod Project under the stewardship of Ronald F. Furguson, Ph.D. of Harvard's kennedy School of Government in 2002-03. Techers and administrators gained insight into the impact of students' perceptions of themselves as learners on their academic achievement.

Michelle Traina Riecke Fellowships afford recipients the opportunity to participate in a summer professional development experience that leads to improvements in practice, curriculum, and student achievement.
