One of the stated goals in SOMEF's mission is to provide funds for "improving the physical environment to foster pride in and appreciation of our schools."

Recognizing that our high school auditorium, an architectural gem dating back to 1927, is in need of structural, technical and aesthetic improvements, SOMEF has raised over $15,000 for the restoration of the 1200-seat hall. SOMEF recently helped furnish the auditorium with new, majestic Broadway-quality curtains.
In 2006 a magnanimous donor provided $80,100 to update the nationally-recognized Columbia High School TV Arts Program on the occasion of its 25th anniversary, which made possible the purchase of new state-of-the-art video editing equipment.
