Every kind gesture has the potential to set in motion an unlimited sequence of good deeds. By offering to help a neighbor, a person inspires another to “pay it forward,” passing the gift along, enhancing each life, building relationships while uniting the community.
ACHIEVE’s Dubrow Volunteer Award is presented annually in the spring to dedicated and exemplary tutors who are passionate about helping children to become independent learners, and who by example, inspire their students to help others, lifting the next one as they climb.
David Noah Dubrow was a Maplewood resident for more than 60 years who gave from the bottom of his heart, delighting in the simple reward of knowing that his kindness might lead to the betterment of someone’s life. He offered crucial support to ACHIEVE, because he believed the program addressed educational inequity head-on by imbuing struggling students with confidence and helping them reach their academic potential. Although David died in 2007, his commitment to ACHIEVE lives on through his $25,000 bequest.
Candidates for the Dubrow Volunteer Award are nominated by staff members at all schools and selected by SOMEF’s ACHIEVE Steering Committee and staff.
