SOMEF is guided by a volunteer Board of Trustees representing the communities of South Orange and Maplewood. The trustees include parents, professionals, educators, and volunteers. The Superintendent of the School District of South Orange & Maplewood, a representative of the local teachers' union (SOMEA), a member of the Board of Education and a representative of the parent associations' Presidents' Council also serve on the SOMEF board.

SOMEF employs a part-time Executive Director and a Volunteer Coordinator for the ACHIEVE Volunteer Tutor Program.
